A common example of this is punishing or rewarding certain behaviors and virtually brainwashing civilians into submission, and two works that epitomize these strategies are “The Pedestrian” and Sleepdealer. Historically, some governments strive for as much control over their civilians as possible, however the methods by which they attain control vary vastly. By providing this is the short story, Bradbury demonstrates that technology in the future will be available to do as the want, when they want.īradbury portrays his attitude and values through the story also by the use of setting. Bradbury presents the police car as being semi-human in the way that it can move freely around and speak and communicate as freely as a human can. Another character featured in the short story is the police car provided with personification. Bradbury characterises the main character, Mr Leonard Mead, to be displayed as an abnormal person, in the fact that he does what a normal person would do in today's society, allowing the readers to compare the two personalities with each other. The Pedestrian contain very little character showing to the readers how technology is turning people into zombie like creatures. Technological activities create a faster means of getting a job done with ease. Technology is on of the most reliable resources available to man kind.
